Finding Information

The 800,000 pages in Financial Times Historical Archive provide daily witness to world issues, activities and events from the height of the Victorian era to the dawn of the 21st century. As such, it is an essential primary source for researchers, teachers, and students working on international business, finance and politics. Every page in this valuable resource is fully searchable via multiple search options.

KEYWORD SEARCH

Keyword searches are the broadest and often return the most results. Simply type in a term of interest or keyword in the entry field and click on the Search button.

From the homepage you can search by keyword or entire document and limit by date. An interactive timeline allows you to hover over specific dates to read economic events linked to archived articles.

ADVANCED SEARCH

Researchers will like the Boolean search functionality of the Advanced Search, which allows users to pinpoint their searches and create more targeted results.

A "fuzzy search" option expands the search to include words similar to search terms entered, thereby accommodating for spelling variations.

Think of a fuzzy search in terms of how similar one word is to another. To change a word into another, characters can be added, deleted or replaced. A single degree is one change to one character. Two degrees is changes to two characters, and so on up to four. The higher the degree, the greater margin of error, presenting the researcher with more results.

Keyword or phrase search in title, entire document, author, day of the week, page number, edition and record number. Set fuzzy search from 'None' to 'High.' Limit the search section and/or article type.
